The first lady landed about 2 p.m. and was greeted at Kirtland Air Force Base by about two dozen airmen and their families.

Obama shook their hands and told them how great it was to be in New Mexico.

At about 2:15 p.m., westbound Interstate 40 was closed at Carlisle to allow Obama’s motorcade to pass, KRQE reported.

ALBUQUERQUE — First Lady Michelle Obama will be wrapping up a four-state campaign swing in New Mexico with a fundraiser for her husband’s re-election bid.

Obama will be greeted by airmen from Kirtland Air Force Base and their families when she arrives in Albuquerque on Tuesday afternoon. She’s then scheduled to speak at the private fundraiser.

Among those who will greet the first lady are Tech. Sgt. Jordan Bishopp, his wife and infant daughter.

Bishopp served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He diffused 200 improvised explosive devices during more than 450 combat missions.

Mrs. Obama has taken interest in the welfare of war veterans and their families. She recently marked the anniversary of Joining Forces, an initiative aimed at helping veterans.

The first lady’s campaign swing also included stops in Colorado, Arizona and Nevada.
