Fugitive Caught in Clovis Girlfriend’s Vent

........................................................................................................................................................................................

New Mexico probation and parole officers were visiting the residence of a wanted fugitive on April 24 when they recognized another wanted fugitive, 33-year-old Brandon Chavez, who was visiting the place, the New Mexico Corrections Department said in a news release.

Chavez fled the residence, but a week later, probation and parole officers were told that Chavez was living in Clovis with his girlfriend, the release said.

The officers, along with New Mexico State Police and Curry County sheriff’s deputies, visited the girlfriend’s residence, and after many hours, the team was able to enter the residence and arrest Chavez, who was found hiding in a vent, the Corrections Department said.

Chavez was booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center on several outstanding warrants, including a bench warrant from Probation and Parole for absconding from supervision after he failed to report to his probation officer for a scheduled appointment on Dec. 12, 2011.

Chavez’s criminal history includes arrests for receiving and transferring controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute; receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle; resisting or evading an officer; aggravated assault; false imprisonment, aggravated battery against a household member; and another count of resisting or evading an officer, the Corrections Department said.
