Ty Herndon is a wired person by nature. His bundle of energy is what sparked the country musician to write music for a new album.

“I’ve been so involved in getting all of this music out,” he says during a recent interview. “I’ve been writing for the better part of a year and the songs have just been flowing out of me.”

Herndon, who recently turned 50, is gearing up to release his new album, “Love Wins,” in June. It marks the first all-country album for the artist in eight years.

“It’s taken me a while to get to this point,” he says. “I’ve released a lot of music since then, but it wasn’t a total country album.”

Herndon has released nine full-length albums since his debut in 1995. He has scored three No. 1 country hits – “What Mattered Most,” “Living in a Moment” and “It Must Be Love” – and charted 17 more singles. He released his latest album, “Journey On,” in 2010 and earned a Grammy nomination for the country/gospel album.

“The last album was a time for healing for me,” he says. “I’ve been in the business for a long time and had ups and downs. It’s about starting over and having the strength to move on.”

Herndon says writing the tracks for the “Love Wins” was a natural progression from the last.

“I’ve been away from country for so long that I knew I had to get back into it,” he says. “The label wanted new music, and it had to be country. After that, inspiration hit and I started writing. It’s taken me a long time to get this out because I keep writing. There was a point I was going to stop myself from writing and make the record, but how can you stop writing when inspired?”

The first single from the upcoming album is “Stones,” released to radio in January.

“This song is the only song on the album that people may have heard before,” he explains. “I wrote it about 14 years ago and have been performing it live for a while now. It was slated for an album that got shelved, so I decided to dust the song off and put it on the new album.”

Herndon says that “Love Wins” will be available June 1 on YouTube, where fans will be able to preview all of the songs along with mini videos.

“We live in a time of social media where you can have a hit song on the Internet,” he says. “Today there are so many ways to get music out to fans. We’re using all of our options in getting the music out there.”
