State Approves Fees For Medical Marijuana Program

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The New Mexico Department of Health has approved fees to fund the state’s medical marijuana program, moving past objections from small-scale producers who complained they might be forced out of business.

State health officials say the action also will increase the quantity of plants that nonprofit growers can produce and allows for testing of medical cannabis.

In a concession to concerns raised by producers, the state agreed Friday to allow growers to produce 150 mature plants and seedlings as well as maintain a useable inventory of marijuana. Under earlier regulations, growers could produce 95 plants.

State Health Secretary Dr. Alfredo Vigil says meeting patients’ needs is the program’s top priority and the agency was responding to concerns that patients had limited access to the plants.
