Fire In Northwest Albuquerque Sends Two To Hospital

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A garage fire at a Northwest Albuquerque home on Thursday sent two elderly residents to the hospital with smoke inhalation, Albuquerque Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Romero said.

Just before 5 p.m., AFD received numerous calls from people reporting smoke and flames coming from a townhome in the 6900 block of Cleghorn NW.

Arriving firefighters found the garage fully engulfed in flames with the fire extending to the roof. They were able to contain the fire and prevented it from extending to the two attached homes, Romero said.

The fire damage was limited to the garage and roof, but extensive water and smoke damage occurred in the rest of the home, according to Romero.

The two residents who were taken to the hospital were in stable condition.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
