Severe Storms Threaten Eastern N.M.

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and overnight across much of eastern New Mexico, with the possibility of large hail and damaging winds, according to a hazardous weather statement from the National Weather Service.

The area of greatest threat lies along and east of a line from Raton to Santa Rosa to Clovis later today, the weather service said.

Severe thunderstorms are possible again Wednesday afternoon and evening but are expected to focus further east near the Texas border, according to the statement.

More thunderstorms are forecast for late Friday and into the weekend, with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, temperatures will soar in the Albuquerque metro area from an expected high of 90 today, increasing to near 95 on Wednesday and a sizzling 97 on Thursday, according to the seven-day forecast. Temperatures are expected to remain in low to mid-90s through next Monday.

There’s a slight (10 percent) chance of showers and thunderstorms forecast for Saturday and Saturday night, the weather service said.
