An Aztec star high school football player who’d just gotten his first car was fatally injured in a Farmington automobile accident that left his passenger critically injured.
Police told the Farmington Daily Times that 18-year-old Andrew Pope had made a turn when his 2003 Dodge Intrepid collided with a large commercial truck Thursday evening.
His passenger, 19-year-old Sheena Lemons, was critically injured. She’s reported in critical condition at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
Pope was an incoming senior at Aztec High School in Aztec where he made the varsity team as a freshman.
He had 224 receiving yards in a game against Durango in 2009, setting a school record.
Lemons graduated from Farmington High School in May.
