Taos County Fires Jail Officials

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Taos County has fired jail administrator William Cordova and jail security chief Mary Mylet, The Taos News reported.

Mylet was escorted to her office last Friday to clear out her things, and Cordova was served with a termination letter at his parents’ home in El Prado, The News said.

The firings were the latest since the Taos County Commission fired County Manager Jacob Caldwell on July 10, the paper reported.

“It’s going to be a long few months until January,” Mylet told The News in a phone interview. “Once Mr. Caldwell left, there have been these walls building up and it’s caused a lot of tension. I think morale is only going to get worse.”

Both Mylet and Cordova confirmed to The News that the county cited low morale and contraband getting into the jail as the reasons for their dismissal, but Cordova said the firings were politically motivated and came after a third-party sexual-harassment complaint he filed against a county commissioner.

Taos County administrators said in a news release that “the interim County Manager has appointed Taos County Sheriff Miguel Romero and Undersheriff Eduardo Romero as co-chiefs of Security for the Taos County Adult Detention Center,” the paper reported.
