State Police Car Seen at Cheeks

........................................................................................................................................................................................

A State Police officer who took a department cruiser to a strip club was put on administrative leave when someone saw the vehicle and snitched.

State Police Lt. Robert McDonald confirmed that the officer, whom he would not identify, would undergo an internal investigation following the incident, which either occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

McDonald said the officer was in town on a training assignment and someone saw the Ford Crown Victoria the officer was driving parked at Cheeks. That person called the Santa Fe Police, who in turn called State Police.

McDonald said the officer was off duty and was not wearing a uniform.

The department allows its officers to take their cruisers to establishments such as restaurants, McDonald said, but it makes State Police look bad when officers drive their marked vehicles to liquor or exotic dancing establishments.

“I mean, both, you know what I mean? It’s not good in the eyes of the public and it doesn’t look good for the department, you know?” McDonald said.
