ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cross Maple joined the Public Education Department in 2004 and has been deputy secretary since 2005
Dr. Catherine Cross Maple, deputy education secretary for learning and accountability at the New Mexico Public Education Department, is retiring as of Saturday.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Education Secretary Veronica C. Garcia, who said in a news release that she would miss Cross Maple and thanked her for “her years of dedicated service to the students and families of New Mexico.”
Cross Maple was working with the Albuquerque Public Schools in 2004 when she joined the state Public Education Department as assistant secretary of the division of vocational rehabilitation, according to the news release. She was promoted to deputy secretary in 2005.
