The more than $1.6 million in stimulus grant funding will be used to support projects

The federal government is releasing more than $1.6 million in stimulus grant funding to support housing and economic development projects in New Mexico, U.S. Sens. Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall said Thursday.

The money was released through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program, which primarily benefits low- to moderate-income families, according to a news release from the two New Mexico Democrats.

The program enables state and local governments to undertake a wide range of activities intended to create suitable living environments, provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities, the news release said.

According to the news release, Albuquerque will receive $1.18 million, Las Cruces $269,562, Farmington $116,504 and Rio Rancho $84,497.
