Santa Fe Attorney Sylvia Lamar has been chosen to replace former District Judge Michael Vigil, who recently retired.

Today, Gov.  Susana Martinez announced that she has appointed LaMar, 56, to the open seat on the bench.

LaMar owns and operates a private practice where she specializes in domestic relations and personal injury law. She has more than 20 years of experience in family law and has served as a court-appointed guardian ad litem.
“I feel that Ms. Lamar’s years of experience advocating for children and working with families will make her a valuable addition to the first judicial district court,” said Governor Martinez.

LaMar graduated from Alfred University and received her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law.

LaMar was one of three nominees recently submitted to Martinez for consideration by the district Judicial Nominating Commission.

The others were attorneys Joseph Manges and David Thomson.

Vigil, 59, retired at the end of September after serving about 18 years on the bench. He won a $1 million lottery prize the weekend after he stepped down.
