Work Begun to Ready City Hall for Petry Sculpture

........................................................................................................................................................................................

It appears work has begun to ready the property outside Santa Fe City Hall for a sculpture of Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry, the Santa Fe native who received the Medal of Honor in 2011.

Tierra Bonita Landscape Co. will spend the next three weeks installing a concrete seating wall, flagstone, brick walkways and footing for the sculpture, as well as irrigating and planting, according to a city press release.

No word so far on when the actual sculpture might be ready.

Pojoaque Pueblo Gov. George Rivera, a noted sculptor, is creating the 10-foot-tall bronze statue of Petry. The project is being funded by Pojoaque Pueblo, which plans to donate it to the Petry family, who will turn it over to the city.
