Communications giant AT&T recently activated a new cell site in Corrales to improve service for wireless customers in the village.
The tower, built by the Corrales-based company Gravity Pad, is located near the village municipal building close to the intersection of Corrales Road and La Entrada.
Gravity Pad owner Kevin Winner said the tower can accommodate equipment for up to six communications providers. T-Mobile and village public safety communications equipment are also located on the new tower, Winner said.
He said AT&T customers have long experienced service problems, such as dropped calls, in Corrales because signals had to come from towers outside the village.
Village Administrator John Avila said the village will get revenue from AT&T and additional carriers who lease space on the new cell tower.
