ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — 7:45 p.m. –The suspicious object that prompted an apartment complex evacuation Saturday afternoon was built to look like a live bomb and then propped up against an apartment door, APD said Saturday.
A passerby noticed the hoax device and reported it to police, and the bomb squad determined it contained no explosive material.
Police don’t have any leads as to who might have built the fake device, described as a car battery attached to a clock or timing device.
6:02 p.m. –The APD bomb squad has disposed of the suspicious object sitting atop an apartment building on the 800 block of Chelwood Park Boulevard NE, and an APD spokeswoman said the object did not appear to be explosive.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the object, described as a battery attached to a clock or timing device, was meant to look like a bomb, or whether it was something else entirely.
Residents haven’t yet been cleared to return to the complex and should consult officers at the scene in order to get the all-clear, the spokeswoman said.
A woman at the Fung Lin apartments on the 800 block of Chelwood Park Boulevard NE called police to report what appeared to be a car battery attached a clock or timing device sitting atop of one of the apartment buildings around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Police evacuated the complex and the bomb squad is looking into the device. Tenants were evacuated to the nearby Wilson Stadium.
