UPDATED: Alleged Justin Bieber Plot May Have Been Hatched in N.M.

........................................................................................................................................................................................

According to court documents, a convicted murder persuaded another inmate to try to execute a plot to kill pop artist Justin Bieber and three other people while the pair were confined at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility near Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

Dana Martin, who was convicted of the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl in Vermont in 2000, transferred this year to the New Mexico prison from a facility in Florida, according to investigators.

It was in the prison west of Las Cruces that Martin allegedly plotted to kidnap and kill Bieber, said Martin, who had a large tattoo of Bieber on his leg and told investigators that he was fed up with all the unanswered fan mail he had sent the young singer, the Sun-News said.

Martin allegedly persuaded fellow inmate Mark Staake to try to carry out a plot to kill and castrate Bieber and three other slayings, including Bieber’s bodyguard and two other unrelated individuals, according to court documents.

Martin told investigators he was seeking “notoriety” for planning Bieber’s death, the paper reported.

Staake, 41, of Albuquerque, has been charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the alleged plot, according to a criminal complaint filed in 3rd Judicial District Court in Las Cruces.

Staake and his nephew, 23-year-old Tanner Ruane, also of Albuquerque, were arrested recently in Vermont where the two allegedly tried to conduct the first two killings and be near a Bieber concert in New York City, the Sun-News said.

The two, who bungled the plot by making a wrong turn at a freeway exit, are awaiting extradition to New Mexico, the paper reported.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is currently conducting a follow-up investigation of the alleged plot, according to a State Police news release.

9:51am 11/26/12 — 2 NM Men in Custody in Murder-For-Hire Plot

By The Associated Press

FOR THE RECORD: The victim’s name in the 2000 killing was Deandra Florucci, not Deandra Fluorucci, as previously reported.

MONTPELIER, Vt. — New York police say two New Mexico men were arrested after being apprehended while traveling to Vermont in a murder for hire plot involving a man serving a life sentence for the 2000 killing of a 15-year-old girl in Barre, Vt.

New York State Police said Monday that 41-year-old Mark Staake was arrested by federal agents on Nov. 19 at the Highgate Springs border crossing in Vermont. The next day, Staake’s nephew 23-year-old Tanner Ruane was arrested at a gas station in the Albany, N.Y., area.

Police say there were multiple targets in the St. Albans, Vt., area. They did not name them.

While in prison in New Mexico, Staake befriended Dana Martin, who was convicted in Vermont of killing Deandra Florucci. Police say Martin may be linked to disappearances around the country.
