Inauguration Celebrated With New Mexico Style

........................................................................................................................................................................................

New Mexicans who live and work in Washington, D.C. — and some who made the trip for the weekend — celebrated President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in style Saturday night at a formal ball hosted by the New Mexico State Society.

More than 350 people, including two members of the state’s congressional delegation, danced, drank and ate authentic New Mexican food (yes, they even had green chile) at the Carnegie Institute of Science. The stately old building near Dupont Circle was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie in 1902 and provided an elegant backdrop for the sharply dressed crowd. Reps. Ben Ray Luján and Michelle Lujan Grisham, as well as former Oklahoma Sen. Fred Harris, spent the evening mingling as others danced to a rocking, six-piece live band.
