Officials investigate inmate’s death

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A prisoner at Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas was found dead Saturday morning.

Officials say William Owens was being treated for a serious medical condition. New Mexico State Police and the Office of the Medical Investigator were notified of his death. The official cause of death will come from the Office of the Medical Investigator, according to the New Mexico Corrections Department.

Owens was serving a five year sentence for drug trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana (one ounce or less). He began his sentence on Jan. 13, 2012, according to the New Mexico Corrections Department.
