Snowfall Wednesday night and early this morning affected the Albuquerque metro area’s morning commute and caused schools and offices throughout the area to open two hours late or at 10 a.m., leaving 1 to 2 inches of snow on the ground mainly in the city’s Northeast Heights and from 3 to 5 inches in the Foothills and the East Mountains.

Rio Rancho and the city’s far West Side escaped much of the snowfall and associated problems, but this latest winter storm affected roads and schools around the state.

The National Weather Service said the heaviest snowfall was already shifting to New Mexico’s northeast and east central plains this morning.

See our earlier coverage of the storm and its effects as they unfolded this morning:

  • Most of metro area opening late
  • Road conditions dicey locally, statewide
  • Accidents reported in and around ABQ.
