No citations will be issued in accident at boy’s Dona Ana County home
Investigators say no citations will be issued in the death of a 4-year-old boy who died after being struck at his home in the Dona Ana County community of Placitas by a truck driven by his uncle, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
The boy, who died at the scene, was hit Tuesday night by a pickup truck driven by the child’s uncle, Joseph Flores, 25, of Placitas, after Flores had stopped at the home to drop off the child’s father, Richard Flores, 23, according to the newspaper.
The Sun-News reported that investigators believe the child approached the driver’s side of the truck and attempted to climb onto the step side. It appears the child either slipped or lost his footing and was pulled under the wheel of the vehicle as it began to move forward.
The driver said he saw children in the yard but said that he never saw the 4-year-old approaching the vehicle, according to the newspaper.
