Governor Appoints New Deputy Secretary

Gail Oliver will Serve as Deputy Secretary of Reentry and Prison ReformGovernor Bill Richardson today appointed Gail Oliver to serve as Corrections Deputy Secretary of Reentry and Prison Reform.  This is a new position at the New Mexico Corrections Department, was created as a result of a recommendation from the Governor’s Task Force on Prison Reform, announced in a press release.
 
“I am committed to improving New Mexico’s corrections system,” said Governor Richardson in the release. “My Prison Reform Task Force made the recommendation to create a new position within the Corrections Department to better coordinate prison reform efforts statewide.”
 
Gail Oliver will be oversee and be responsible for developing prison and community programs that will allow inmates to leave prison with the skills they need to be more successful when they return home. More offenders will be working and rebuilding their lives instead of committing more crime and returning back to prison.
 
Oliver has been the Corrections Department’s Education Bureau Chief since 1996.  She has more than 25 years of experience in health, human services, legal, education services delivery and administration for youth and adults.
