Eddy County teen crushed to death

........................................................................................................................................................................................

A Malaga teen was crushed by a one-ton pipe while working at his parents’ business Friday afternoon, according to an Eddy County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Trenton Ryan Vasquez, 16, was helping his parents with their business, Black River Trucking, when he was helping load a 2,000-pound, 4-inch-wide roll of poly pipe onto a flatbed truck when the accident occurred, the Carlsbad Current-Argus reported.

Sheriff’s officers responded to a 2:30 p.m. call at the family’s Malaga property where the teen was found dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The incident is still under investigation, and Vasquez’s body was sent to the state Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy, the Current-Argus said.

Funeral services for Vasquez, who was planning to graduate from Faith Christian Academy in Carlsbad in May, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad.
