Baillio’s shutters its West Side store

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Baillio’s is departing the West Side — at least for now.

The local electronics and appliance retailer is shutting the doors of its Cottonwood Corners store after just 18 months at the location.

April 22 is the last day for the store, located at 10420 Coors Bypass NW.

In a news release, owner Jack Baillio said the retailer lost the lease at the site “through no fault of our own,” citing issues between the building’s landlord and lender and the “unsettled legal status of the property.”

He told the Journal on Monday that the closure is no reflection on the overall health at Baillio’s. The small chain still will maintain its showroom/headquarters on Menaul NE and another location in Santa Fe. Whatever inventory remains after the West Side store closes will get moved to the Menaul store.

“We’ve been here 47 years, and we’ll be here many more years,” he said.

Baillio classified business at the West Side store as “fair” and said he hopes to find another building in the area eventually.
