FARMINGTON (AP) — A man charged with murdering another man last year has accepted a plea agreement in San Juan County.
The Farmington Daily Times reports that 23-year-old Gabriel Alcon entered an Alford plea to second-murder in the May 2012 death of 32-year-old Anthony Jacquez and pleaded guilty to a drug charge.
An Alford plea means a person doesn’t admit guilt but instead acknowledges there likely was enough evidence for a jury conviction.
The plea limits Alcon’s prison sentence to no more than 10 years. No sentencing date has yet been set.
Authorities say Jacquez was fatally shot and his body was found dumped on a road in a remote area of Farmington.
Four other people are charged with conspiracy and tampering with evidence in the case.
Their charges are pending.
