Santa Fe County Assessor Domingo Martinez to seek state auditor post

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Former New Mexico state Auditor Domingo Martinez is aiming to recapture the elected position he held for eight years.

Martinez, a Democrat, announced today he will seek the party’s nomination to run for state auditor in 2014. He previously held the post from 1998 to 2006, but was barred by term limits from seeking a third consecutive term.

Martinez, who has been elected to two terms as Santa Fe County assessor since leaving the State Auditor’s Office, said if once again elected to the post he would work to improve the quality and timeliness of state-mandated financial audits and would consider implementing new technology aimed at improving transparency.

Current state Auditor Hector Balderas is barred from seeking re-election and earlier this week announced his campaign to run for the Attorney General’s Office.

Stay tuned for more 2014 election updates — after all, the general election is just 18 months away.
