Officers rescue toddler, woman from boyfriend

A SWAT team went into a northwest Albuquerque home and safely evacuated a 21-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son being held against their will by the woman’s boyfriend Friday morning, police said.

Taken into custody was Richard Salazar, 23, now facing charges of domestic violence, assault and false imprisonment, according to police spokeswoman Officer Tasia Martinez.

Officers responded shortly before 8 a.m. to a home in the 200 block of 57th Street NW, after the woman’s father called from Colorado telling police that the suspect would not allow his daughter and her son to leave.

Officers responding with a SWAT team entered the home and evacuated the woman and child, who were not hurt. The couple is believed to have had ongoing domestic dispute problems, Martinez said.
