Albuquerque’s newest Walmart Neighborhood Market is coming soon.

The 37,000-square-foot store on Cutler NE is expected to open by mid-summer, a company spokeswoman told the Journal.

The Neighborhood Market will move into the Pavilions at San Mateo shopping center near Interstate 40 and San Mateo. As I reported last year, it is taking over a space that had lost two tenants in the last five years: Linens ‘N Things and Ultimate Electronics.

Walmart is expected to hire approximately 65 associates for the new store, the spokeswoman said.

The discount retailer already has 46 stores — including three Neighborhood Markets — and nearly 14,000 employees in New Mexico, according to its website.

Neighborhood Markets sell groceries such as fresh produce, meat and dairy products. They also offer a pharmacy.

They are, on average, about one-fifth the size of a typical Walmart Supercenter.
