Retired Navajo Nation district judge dies

FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz. (AP) — A retired district judge on the Navajo Nation has died at age 88.

Tribal officials announced Thursday that Evelyne E. Bradley died Tuesday.

Her funeral was scheduled for Friday at the Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance.

Bradley was a district judge from 1984 until her retirement in 1995.

She grew up in Cross Canyon, attended North Phoenix High School and graduated from Haskell Institute in Kansas.

Bradley served with the Ramah, Tuba City and Kayenta judicial districts.

After retirement, she was elected to the Justice of the Peace position for Navajo County in Kayenta.

Bradley previously worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Office of Navajo Economic Opportunity and the Navajo Housing Authority and as a court advocate.

She’s survived by four children, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
