ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office reports that politico and activist Andrew Leo Lopez, 65, was found dead in his South Valley home Tuesday morning about 10:45.
BCSO captain Edward Mims said there does not appear to be any foul play. According to Mims, friends became worried after not hearing from Lopez for five days.
“They went to his home and the door was unlocked, which we learned was not unusual,” Mims said. “The friends found him deceased and called us.”
Lopez was running for position 4 on the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District board. He was facing opponents Adrian Oglesby, who is the incumbent, and Louis Trujillo. Lopez was at times an outspoken critic of the board and had unsuccessfully run for an MRGCD seat several times.
