ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sandoval County Commissioner Orlando Lucero is holding a workshop titled “No Horsing Around” to discuss the situation of free roaming horses in Placitas.
The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 on the third floor of the Sandoval County Administration building at 1500 Idalia Rd., near the intersection with N.M. 528.
Many residents of Placitas have contacted Lucero with concerns about the growing population of unclaimed free roaming horses and the lack of available food and water and the potential public safety hazard posed by horses straying onto roads.
Workshop topics include responsibility, claims, liability and fencing for the horses.
Groups who will attend include: the City of Albuquerque Open Space, representatives from the pueblos of Santa Ana, San Felipe, Santo Domingo and Sandia, as well as the Wild Horse Observers Association, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, New Mexico Livestock Board, Sandoval County Sheriff’s office, representatives from Placitas and the U.S. Forest Service.
