National Geographic Adventure Magazine expected to include area in upcoming article.

National Geographic Adventure Magazine is expected to include a small feature on Silver City's Boston Hills Trails in an upcoming larger story on hiking the Continental Divide, according to the Silver City Sun-News.

"They were intrigued with Boston Hill because of its history," Chamber of Commerce director Nicole Robbins told the Sun-News of her recent contact with the magazine.

The Boston Hill Open Space Trail System is located south of Silver City's downtown and includes more than half a dozen former mining sites, reminding hikers of the town's historic era of hard-rock mining for copper, silver and other precious metals, according to the Silver City Community Development Department Web site.

Apart from a breathtaking view from an elevation of 6,830 feet above sea level, hikers can sometimes get a glimpse of mule deer, rabbits, javelina, coatimundi and foxes who share the trail, according to the Web site.

Robbins told the Sun-News she put the magazine in touch with the Grant County Community Health Council and its 2007 brochure "Great Places to Walk in Grant County."

Kendra Milligan of the Health Council told the Sun-News the magazine plans to include a link to the council's Web site and the online version of the brochure (pdf download) in its article.
