BLM approves NM natural gas pipeline project

(AP) — A proposal to build a 234-mile pipeline to transport natural gas liquids across New Mexico has won federal approval.

The Bureau of Land Management says this week’s decision to approve the Western Expansion Pipeline project comes after a review of public comments and potential environment effects.

The project will transport natural gas liquid products from northwestern New Mexico to the southeastern corner of the state and ultimately to markets in Texas to help meet existing and future demand.

Last week, President Barack Obama unveiled his plan for fighting climate change. Aside from reducing power plant emissions, the plan aims to increase America’s reliance on renewables and natural gas.

Enterprise Mid-America Pipeline says construction could start as early as this summer. The project could take as long as nine months to complete.
