ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An Albuquerque man faces six years in prison after sentenced on convictions stemming from an accident that resulted in the death of a young boy riding in another vehicle.

KRQE-TV reports that Mariano Salaz was sentenced Wednesday for vehicular homicide and driving while under the influence.

The convictions stem from the August collision in which 2-year-old Vincente Griego suffered a serious brain injury. He was taken off life support a week later.

Salaz apologized to the Griego family in court. He said he’ll speak to high school students about the dangers of drunk driving.
