ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The city’s second Dick’s Sporting Goods is set to open a little earlier than previously thought.

The new location — under construction now at the west end of Coronado Center — is now expected to open Sept. 26, according to mall management.

The store was originally pegged for a late-fall arrival.

That means Dick’s will debut shortly after its upstairs neighbor, Gordmans, opens its doors. Gordmans, an apparel and home goods retailer, is set to open its Coronado location on Sept. 19.

Dick’s and Gordmans have combined to take over most of the old Macy’s site, a three-level store that sat vacant since 2006.

Coronado General Manager Randy Sanchez said the mall is not actively pursuing a tenant for the third level, in part because its accessibility is so limited.

In other mall news:

  • Body Central opened last week in a 5,700-square-foot store near Kohl’s. Body Central sells clothes and accessories aimed at teenage girls and 20-something women.
  • Forever 21 is in the midst of absorbing 1,300 square feet of adjoining space formerly occupied by Kay Jewelers. The jewelry store recently moved into the space vacated by Gap Kids.
