ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The parent Los Angeles Dodgers largely stood pat over the offseason, and the 2010 Albuquerque Isotopes’ opening-day likewise will have a familiar feel.
The 24-man roster that begins the Pacific Coast League season on Thursday in Oklahoma City includes 11 players who were with the Isotopes last year. Manager Tim Wallach returns for his second season, as does his pitching coach (Jim Slaton) and hitting coach (John Moses).
Among those back is outfielder Jamie Hoffmann, who had left the organization as a Rule 5 pickup by the World Series champion New York Yankees. But the Rule 5 stipulation is a player must be offered back to the originating organization if he doesn’t make the major league roster.
Outfielder Xavier Paul, shortstop Chin-lung Hu, catcher A.J. Ellis, and catcher-first baseman J.D. Closser are all back.
Among the newcomers are reliever Justin Miller, who played for the Isotopes as a Marlins farmhand but pitched last year in San Francisco, and former Boston Red Sox infielder Nick Green.
In addition to the 11 returning Isotopes are four Dodgers farmhands, one with an especially familiar name. Ivan DeJesus Jr. is the son of a 15-year big leaguer who played for the Albuquerque Dukes from 1974-76.
After four games in Oklahoma City, the Isotopes play their home opener next Monday against New Orleans.
