Flashback: A Look at Some of the Classic 'Pit Games'

♦ Jan. 18, 1968: No. 6 UNM 72, No. 5 Utah 66. Big-time win during the magical season that ended with the Lobos’ first NCAA appearance.

♦ Jan. 17, 1976: No. 4 UNLV 80, UNM 73. Listed as school-record crowd of 19,452 for fire marshal purposes. Estimates were up to 23,000 packed the Pit.

♦ Dec. 30, 1977: No. 10 Syracuse 96, UNM 91. Championship game of the old Lobo Invite was deafening for 40 minutes.

♦ Jan. 17, 1978: No. 20 UNM 89, No. 16 UNLV 76. Norm. Tark. Madness.

♦ Dec. 22, 1984: No. 1 Georgetown 69, UNM 61. Lobos give Patrick Ewing and company all they can handle.

♦ Jan. 2, 1988: UNM 61, No. 1 Arizona 59. Maybe the biggest win in school history.

♦ Dec. 8, 1988: No. 6 Oklahoma 100, UNM 96. Great crowd sees a great game.

♦ Nov. 30, 1996: No. 19 UNM 84, No. 11 Arizona 77. Lobos go to 5-0 in a season that ends in second round of the NCAA Tournament — but could have been so much more.

♦ Feb. 1, 1997: No. 13 UNM 87, No. 4 Utah 71. Believed to be last time CBS Sports did a game from The Pit.

♦ Feb. 1, 1998: No. 14 UNM 77, No. 3 Utah 74. Royce Olney’s 3-pointer beats the nation’s last unbeaten team.

♦ Jan. 16, 1999: No. 16 UNM 79, No. 7 Arizona 78. Damion Walker’s layin at buzzer off John Robinson III’s feed.

♦ Jan. 7, 2002: No. 18 Gonzaga 95, UNM 90 (OT): Lobos fail to score at end of regulation and lose in overtime on late-night ESPN “Big Monday” in frenzied atmosphere.

♦ Dec. 22, 2004: No. 5 Wake Forest 81, UNM 64. The Chris Paul Show buries Lobos.

♦ Jan. 27, 2010: No. 23 UNM 76, No. 10 BYU 72. Win is sixth of a 16-game winning streak that lands Lobos in top 10.

♦ Jan. 29, 2011: UNM 86, No. 9 BYU 77. Lobos rally from 13 points down against Jimmer Fredette’s Cougars.
