ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico football coach Bob Davie on Tuesday suspended junior quarterback David Vega indefinitely, effective immediately, the school reported.
Vega was involved in an incident in which police arrived at the scene early Sunday morning, resulting in his arrest.
“I found out about this incident this afternoon, immediately went to David Vega and without asking his side of the story, I told him he was suspended from the football team,” Davie said Tuesday. “Based on past events and his decision not to come to me with this latest information, he is immediately suspended from all football activity.”
A statement by the school said, “Until Coach Davie is satisfied that he has all the facts, he will not make a decision on Vega’s return to the program.”
