The St. Pius two-headed rushing attack of T.J. Sanchez and Nic Stafford demolished the Bulldogs in a 56-6 Sartans prep football victory on Saturday afternoon at Milne Stadium.
Sanchez had 11 carries for 127 yards and three touchdowns, and Stafford had eight carries for 98 yards and three TDs.
“Both Nic Stafford and T.J. are big, physical runners,” Sartans coach San Juan Mendoza said. “If you focus on T.J., who had 17 touchdowns last year, Nic Stafford can get away from you. If you start focusing on Nic Stafford, T.J. can sneak up on you. We’re very blessed to have two guys like that.”
St. Pius (1-0) scored 33 seconds into the game as Ryan Hernandez’s 49-yard pass to Robert Garcia put the Sartans on the 4-yard line, enabling Sanchez to punch it in on the second play of the game.
AHS (0-1) came right back on D’Yon Santiago’s 89-yard kickoff return, but that would be all the Bulldogs could muster.
“Depth is our biggest issue, we have 11 guys going both ways,” AHS coach Michael Zufall said.
The Sartans responded to Santiago’s TD with a nine-play, 61-yard drive that Sanchez finished with a 15-yard scoring run.
St. Pius finished the contest in the third quarter on Kyle Carmody’s 80-yard TD run, enacting the 50-point mercy rule.
