UNM Lobos Fall Out of Coaches Poll, Still Ranked by AP (view polls)

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The New Mexico Lobos, off a Dec. 31 loss at Saint Louis in which the team’s offense struggled mightily in the first half, have been bumped out of this week’s USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Lobos (13-2) remain ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25.

The Lobos’ 102 points in the AP poll places them 11 points behind No. 24 UNLV, UNM’s Wednesday night opponent in the Pit, and eight points ahead of VCU, the top point earner in the “others receiving votes” category.

UNM’s 48 points in the coaches poll leaves them with the highest point total of the “others receiving votes” category, 22 points behind No. 25 Wyoming. The Cowboys, who at 13-0 are one of only four undefeated teams remaining in the country, is ranked for the first time this season in either poll. They also received votes in the AP poll.

Fellow Mountain West teams San Diego State (16 AP/15 Coaches) and UNLV (24 AP/19 Coaches) are the only teams in the league ranked in both polls. Colorado State received votes in the coaches poll.
