ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Daniel Romero won’t be back in the Pit.
At least not this year.
University of New Mexico officials on Friday decided that Romero, a Belen native and former UNLV student, will not be allowed back in the Pit for the rest of 2013 after he reached out from his court side seat Wednesday night and shoved UNLV guard Anthony Marshall during the Runnin’ Rebels game with the New Mexico Lobos.
The owners of those seats, Romero’s family, have not been punished.
Romero, who has not responded to a Journal request for comment, did not object to his near immediate ejection from the game and cooperated with security guards and ushers who escorted him out of the arena.
While the yearlong banishment from the Pit was UNM’s decision, both UNLV and the Mountain West Conference were kept abreast of the decision.
