The “Incentive Salary” portion of the contract for University of New Mexico men’s basketball head coach Steve Alford allows for $625,000-plus* in bonuses for on-court and in-classroom achievements each season. Here, according to the contract addendum he signed Nov. 29, 2011, are the 14 bonuses he is eligible to receive:

1. Conference regular season championship $30,000
2. Conference tournament championship $30,000
3. Mountain West Coach of the Year $10,000
4. NCAA Tournament berth $20,000
5. 20-win season $10,000
6. Final RPI ranking in top 50 $10,000
7. Final strength of schedule in top 100 $10,000
8. Team grade point average above 2.7 $15,000
9. Beat a team ranked in the Top 20
of either AP or USA Today Coaches poll
$15,000-plus*
10. Sweet 16 appearance $50,000
11. Elite Eight appearance $50,000
12. Final Four appearance $100,000
13. National championship $250,000
14. National coach of the year $25,000
 Total possible incentive: $625,000-plus*

*Bonus for beating teams ranked in Top 20 can happen more than once per season.
