Prep Basketball

Mark Mosely scored 17 points and center Jason Baca added 16 for West Mesa, whose inside-outside balance was too much for visiting Valley in a 60-50 Mustangs win on Thursday night in boys District 5-5A prep basketball.

Adonis Saltes scored a game-high 23 points for the Vikings (17-5, 7-2).

Mosley and Romolo Salazar both had three 3s for West Mesa (10-11, 5-3), which had eight as a team.

ALBUQUERQUE HIGH 77, ATRISCO HERITAGE 66: At Albuquerque High, Mahlik Sims led three Bulldogs who had double-doubles, with 23 points and 10 assists. Bobby Montoya added 23 points and 15 rebounds, while James Croasdell had 10 points and 20 rebounds.

The Jaguars were led by Philip LaCour with 20 points. Atrisco’s usual high-scorer Corbin Waquie had 9 points before fouling out.

HIGHLAND 62, RIO GRANDE 59: At Rio Grande, Bryan Medina scored 23 points and Malik Baker added 16 as the Hornets (4-17, 1-7) held on to beat the Ravens (8-14, 3-5) and pick up their first district 5-5A win of the season.

Juwan Brooks scored 20 to lead Rio Grande.

Girls

ELDORADO 68, MANZANO 42: At Manzano, Kerstin Strong scored a game-high 26 points as the Eagles cruised past the Monarchs.

Jourden Williams hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lead Manzano.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 68, SANDIA PREP 36: At Sandia Prep, Marissa Perry scored 16 points to lead the Huskies. Kalei Yepa had 22 points for the Sundevils.

LA CUEVA 52, SANDIA 42: At Sandia, Alyssa Yocky scored 14 points and Alexa Romano added 13 for the visiting Bears in a District 2-5A showdown. Astrea Reed’s 22 points weren’t quite enough for the host squad. La Cueva remains unbeaten in district play at 4-0.
