ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The final piece of the coaching transition puzzle for the University of New Mexico basketball team will be completed July 1.
That is when Mike Iuzzolino is expected to take over as the men’s basketball team’s Director of Basketball Operations, the Journal has learned.
Lobos head coach Craig Neal can not confirm the hire or comment publically on any hires to his staff until the university’s personnel department finalizes the hire, which it has not done.
Iuzzolino, 45, this past season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. He played two years in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks, where he joined Derek Harper on the arcade version of NBA Jam in 1993. He also played overseas, primarily in Italy and also in the Continental Basketball Association, where in 1994 he played for the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Fury and was teammates with Neal. He played collegiately at St. Francis (Pa.) for two years and Penn State for two years.
He replaces as DOBO Craig Snow, who was promoted this offseason to the Lobos third assistant under Neal and joins on the Lobos staff associate head coach Lamont Smith, assistants Drew Adams and Snow and video coordinator Brandon Mason.
