Friday: Albuquerque was held to one hit in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the host Iowa Cubs at Principal Park in Des Moines.

Albuquerque catcher Damaso Espino broke up the no-hit bid of Iowa’s Guillermo Moscoso with a double to right field with one out in the eighth inning.

Moscoso left after the eighth. He struck out five and walked two in improving his record to 7-5.

The Isotopes’ Rob Rasmussen (0-3) was the losing pitcher despite working seven innings and giving up only one earned run and five hits. He struck out six.

Doing the damage for Iowa offensively were J.C. Boston, who had a double and two RBIs, and Darnel McDonald, who went 2-for-2 and drove in the other run.

This and that: In four games against Iowa (his former team) since joining Albuquerque, Ian Stewart is 5-for-13 with three runs scored, a double, a home run, two walks and two runs batted in.

… The Isotopes had entered Friday’s play tied with the Reno Aces for third in the Pacific Coast League in team batting with a .284 average.
