New: Officers Shoot at Man After Domestic Violence Call

........................................................................................................................................................................................

UPDATE: Two police officers fired shots at a man during a domestic violence incident Wednesday afternoon in the Westgate neighborhood on the city’s West Side, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman said officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of El Rancho Drive SW at about 3:20 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute call.

Hoffman said when officers arrived at the residence, the woman had either already left or was leaving the residence. A man was inside.

“The male armed himself and pointed a weapon at the officers,” Hoffman said, “prompting the two officers to fire at the male.”

The man was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Hoffman said the man was inside the home at the time he was shot.

The home where the shooting occurred was cordoned off at least two blocks away and a motorized crime lab was parked in an intersection hear the house.

A neighbor, who had moved here from California recently, said he did not know the couple. He said the neighborhood is generally quiet and crime free except for graffit taggers.

The names of the couple and of the officers involved were not released Wednesday.
