ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The victim of a fatal stabbing Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Walmart store on Carlisle NE near Menaul was involved in a fight that was broken up by store security, then flared up again, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m., they found the man, later identified as 32-year-old Christopher Chase, lying on the ground outside the store.
The girlfriend told police that she and Chase went to the store and that a fight with two men broke out in the parking lot. Those men were identified late Wednesday night as Abelardo Gonzalez, 51, and Andres Gonzalez, 28.
The fight resumed a short time later in the parking lot, and Chase was stabbed.
Chase was then taken to a hospital, where he died, and the assailants ran away, police said.
Police hinted all along that they had strong leads in the investigation, which ended Wednesday night. Police praised the store security because they were able to get the suspects’ license plate number.
Albuquerque police then found and arrested the suspects. The pair is being held at Metropolitan Detention Center on murder charges. They’re not being offered the possibility of bonding out of jail.
