SANTA FE, N.M. — Rep. Stephen Easley of Eldorado has died.
Details of his death were not immediately clear. Easley, a Democrat, had represented District 50 in the New Mexico House of Representatives since the start of this year, after winning the seat in the 2012 elections.
Easley owned an information technology business. He previously worked in state government, including as deputy chief information officer under then-Gov. Bill Richardson. He also did IT work for the New Mexico departments of Homeland Security, Workforce Development and Training, and Public Safety. He had a PhD from Washington University.
Easley was also a city commissioner in Alamogordo from 2000-2003.
He was married and had two children and two grandchildren.
A statement by the Democratic Party of Santa Fe County said, “We will miss his energetic personality and service to the Community.”
