SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A University of New Mexico researcher has been named by Gov. Susana Martinez to a board overseeing the state lottery.
Paul Guerin fills a vacancy on the seven-member New Mexico Lottery Authority.
If confirmed by the state Senate, Guerin will serve a term that expires June 30, 2018.
Guerin is a senior research scientist at UNM’s Institute for Social Research and operates a consulting business. He received a doctorate in sociology from UNM.
The lottery had net ticket sales of nearly $142 million in the last fiscal year, with $43.7 million of that going for a college scholarship program.
State law requires at least 30 percent of lottery revenues go to the scholarship program, which covers tuition for New Mexico college students.
