ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A domestic violence suspect barricaded himself in his residence with his family
in Rio Rancho for almost eight hours Wednesday night before police were able to talk
talk him out.
Taken into custody was Juan Martinez, 31, who resided with his wife and children
in an home in the 400 block of Vancouver Road in Rio Rancho, according to
police spokesman Nick Onken.
After surrendering to police at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Martinez was booked
into the Sandoval County Jail on charges of domestic violence, aggravated assault,
child abuse, and he was also booked for an unrelated arrest warrant, Onken said.
The only person injured was the man’s wife, “who was injured by the battery from
the suspect,” Onken said.
Police responded to the call at about 4 p.m. and when Martinez refused to allow police
entry, a department Swat team was called to the scene, with assistance from the
State Police, Onken said.
