ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Rio Rancho Mayor Tom Swisstack has announced he will not seek reelection.
“After careful thought and consideration, I have made the decision that after serving more than 22 years as an elected official, it is time to focus on the next chapter of my life,” Swisstack said in a prepared statement issued this evening. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve as Rio Rancho’s Mayor, and I thank citizens and the business community for their trust and belief in me. I especially want to acknowledge city employees for all of their efforts and service, and those that have worked with me in local, county and state government over the years.”
Swisstack said he will continue to serve as mayor until his current term expires following the results of the March 2014 municipal election, which includes electing a mayor.
“I encourage the citizens and the business community to help design the cities next chapter as it continues to grow and prosper,” Swisstack also said in his statement. “It is important that we continue to develop a well-rounded city that includes quality of life as well as economic development. The power to make our community great is truly in all the people’s hands and I encourage you to become involved and help us move forward.”
